Princess Bride Urduja

I first saw Ulysses King’s Princess Urduja hand painted gown in the 2018 Mister and Miss Republic of the Philippines gala night.  Over the years, there was a wave of Filipiniana fashion with designers interpreting the terno complete with detachable or built in butterfly sleeves.  Ulysses King took another direction by bringing in hand-painted design on a seemingly naive pink long tube gown.

The Princess Urduja Gown gown is inspired by the paintings created by National Artist, Fernando Amorsolo depicting Princess Urduja , a legendary warrior princess who is recognized as a heroine in Pangasinan from the 14th century Philippines. Most of the details of the clothing and weaponry came from the designer’s imagination. The main material is mikado silk with handpainted image of Princess Urduja, accentuated with crystal beads.

For our fashion editorial, we supposed, what if we turn Urduja into a princess bride? She would probably break stereotypes of a white wedding gown an with strong features, the real fierce warrior that she was.  And pink to bring in the contradictions that strong as she is, there must be a feminine side to her.  Wearing the gown is Cindy Marriah Dumol, Miss Republic of the Philippines 2018.

Fun Wedding Entourage

5001How to shoot a fun wedding entourage group photo?  The bride and groom should be synchronized.  The groom wears a Pintados Barong Tagalog while the bride wears a hand painted Princess Urduja gown both by Ulysses King.  The grooms men and the bridesmaid should follow the wedding motif, modern Filipiniana.  Throw in a sports car, tilt the angle to mimic motion, rehearse every jump and running shot and make sure every person in the photo has his moment to tell a story that this is probably the most fun wedding event of the year, except that this is a fashion editorial for Ulysses King Spring Summer 2018 which are all available at Vatican Cinderella, Glorietta 3 Mall, Makati City, Philippines.

This was also the last set in our photoshoot set for the golden hour when the afternoon sun gives a soft but warm tone and the cast and crew have already formed new bonds of friendships.  Hence, making them smile, jump and scream and mimic a fun moment was but natural because indeed this is one memorable shoot with the cast and crew of Ulysses King’s Spring Summer formal wear 2018.

And really how to shoot this one? I just leave it with one BTS photo courtesy of Vatican Fashion Museum staff.
